Pilgrims entering the plaza del Obradoiro – by Anaisophie

The Camino de Santiago is becoming more popular among people from other countries other than Spain.
For this reason, along the Camino it is starting to be common to see aditions of Vegan and Vegetarian meals in the Menus of the restaurants, on an intent to adapt their services to the new trend of foreign customers . (Vegetarian and Vegan meals are not very common in Spanish menus).
This detail confirms the increasing number of foreign pilgrims walking the Camino.
According to the Galician Newspaper LaVozdeGalicia, During the months of Mai and June of 2012, the percentage of foreigners arriving in Santiago and getting their certificate of the Camino “La Compostela”, was 66,98% and 55,68% respectively. This percentages lowered during the month of July, probably because foreign people try to avoid the Spanish summer heat.
