Saint Jean Pied de Port is the traditional starting point for the Camino Frances and now getting there is much easier.
There is now a non stop flight with Air France Vancouver to Paris, departure at 2.00p – arriving at 8.35a. From there to Saint Jean by train or flying.
Charles De Gaul (CDG) airport has a train station where you can board a high-speed train from Paris to Biarritz or Bayonne (these two places are right next door to each other, the stations being one stop apart). From each of these stations you can take a local train to St.Jean Pied de Port.
If you prefer to fly, you can get a low-cost flight from CDG in Paris to Biarritz, get a taxi from the airport to Bayonne station and then take a train to St. Jean Pied de Port.

If you are arriving in Biarritz on a late train or plane and cannot get a connection straight through to St. Jean, you will have to stay overnight in Biarritz or Bayonne. A popular tourist spot, Biarritz is a lovely place to relax, and there are lots of places to stay before going on to start the camino. It is vitally important that you book in advance when you do the camino in the busy season. Many pilgrims stay overnight in Bayonne as there are plenty of hotels and guesthouses right next to the station, making it easy to get up early and hop on the first train out to St. Jean Pied de Port.
We can help you with these arrangements!
