Here are some statistics taken from the Office of the Pilgrim website.
During 2012 the Office of pilgrims received 192.488 pilgrims (43.47% women,56.53% men). Of all this pilgrims, 85.60% walked, 14.24% biked, 0.15% rode a horse and 0.01% did it on a wheelchair. During the last holly year 2010 they received 272.412.
The ages of the pilgrims arriving in Santiago during 2012: 56.79% were under 30; 14.78%were in between 30 and 60 years old; 28.43% were older than 60 years old.
Pilgrims motivations to do the Camino:
41.30% did it for religious reasons.
52.56% did it for Religious and cultural purposes.
6.14% did the Camino for only cultural reasons.
Pilgrims Nationalities:
Spanish: 49,50%
Foreigners: 50,50% Of which 16,07% were Germans ; Italians 12,76%; Portuguese 10,63%; French 8,35%; North Americans 7,27%; Irish 3,95%; British 3,87%; Dutch 3,10% etc.
Place of start of the Camino:
Sarria 21,16%; León 5,41%; S. Jean P. Port 11,54%;
Most of the pilgrims have done the French Camino.
