Like 60 years ago!!! As in my grandfather’s time!!

That’s what locals and tourists thought last Sunday morning in Madrid.

2.000 sheep occupied downtown Madrid on Sunday morning. The shepherds and their animals leave home one month ago but yesterday the feeling was different. They got into to the capital “Madrid is always Madrid”.

It is a tradition that happen every year since 1418. Sheep are allow to use the main street of the city like Calle Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Plaza de la Villa one time per year. These streets belongs to the Cañada Real / a historical road used to move cattle all around the Iberian Peninsula.

The event wants to remind the importance of the rural world, preserve Spanish customs and promote the history and heritage of this tradition.

Sheep invasion!! The rural world is in Madrid for a day!!
